A Toast to All You Indie Authors

Seriously, take a bow.  Pat yourself on the back.  You’re a self-made success.  You work for yourself, run your own business.  And let me tell you, what you do, it’s not easy!

What’s the deal, you ask?  Why do I care?  Because, it’s very true what they say: Sometimes you have to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to really appreciate them.  I’ve always been a reader and supporter of Indie Authors by hosting tours, but lately I’ve been getting first hand experience at all of the hard work you put into each and every one of your books.  The endless decisions, the anxiety of not knowing who to trust and the cost is jaw dropping!  Trust me, having a publisher does not make you a Master of the Publishing industry.  Not even in the slightest.  I thought that I’d learned quite a bit after my first book got released, but it turned out that I knew nothing… nothing at all.

It is a virtual mine-field out there with endless resources, helpful articles, people who want you to succeed by buying all of their “How-To” books.  Cover artists charging upwards to $500 for the basics, unless you luck out and find a premade cover that isn’t already being used by everyone else.  Editors that want to drain your bank account at $0.10+ cents a word and let’s not even get started on the Interior Layout, Teasers, Book Trailers and Marketing packages.  The ISBN numbers, Copyright registration fees (and the 8 months it takes to get the damn number) – it’s a miracle any of you are still sane, let alone friendly and not tremendously broke.

Maybe the broke part is highly probable, but let’s face it: YOU ARE AWESOME!animated-gold-star-625036You took the bull by the horns and made your dream come true.  Even if you’re not yet a Bestseller, you saw your book through from Idea to Published.  I’m only partway through the process and I already have so much respect and admiration for each of you.  So, thank you!  Thank you for being an inspiration and for being so bad ass.  You deserve more than a gold star and virtual toast, but unfortunately that’s all I have to offer at the moment. 🙂

Happy Thursday Everyone!  If you know an Indie Author than consider yourself blessed & maybe give them some coffee or chocolate!
