This was one of the most unpredictable books I’ve ever read. I found myself on the edge of my seat the whole time, waiting for what would happen next – but trust me, you won’t see half the scenes coming!

Evelyn “Evie” Moorland lives every Boston socialite’s wildest dream as the wife of wealthy, gorgeous Jack Moorland Jr. It’s a cold, cruel and empty marriage, though, that Jack won’t let her out of and she’s too intimidated to leave on her own. That doesn’t mean she’d ever wanted to get abducted by a thief and used as a shield for his frantic getaway. Now she’s on the adventure of a lifetime, but there’s nothing fun or fantastic about it. Her captor keeps her in a constant state of fear and distress with his limited chatter, hard demeanor and mortifying demands.

Hal isn’t necessarily haunted by his cruddy upbringing or the horrors he survived while in the Army, but it has turned him into a clever, resourceful and hard man. He hadn’t intended to have a hostage to worry about, but the spoiled princess somehow sensed him in her palace of an apartment and sounded the alarm. Now, he was stuck with her, so he was going to use that to his advantage and make sure she suffers right along with him.

There’s so much I can say about this book, but I don’t want to spoil anything. One of the best aspects was experiencing these two characters on the run, stuck together unexpectedly and basically winging it in order to survive in their own ways. Evie starts off as a very timid and naive woman who’s been molded into an uptight, straight-and-narrow coward by her prim and proper, emotionally abusive husband. It was thrilling watching her unwind and find her courage, inner-strength and confidence.

The characters stay true to themselves throughout, regardless of their personal evolutions and the writing is very realistic. No unbelievable miracles arrive to save the day, and the characters’ hearts are very much human, conditioned by their desires just as much as their flaws. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for something outside of the norm who likes a little humor, a lot of emotion, raw humanity and some extremely sizzling sex scenes!
