#SongLyricSunday ♫ “The Diary of Jane” by Breaking Benjamin

SongLyricSunday

This is quickly becoming my favorite post to look forward to every week! It’s time for #SongLyricSunday again, hosted by Helen at This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time.

This week’s theme is: Obsession

Obsession comes in many forms and degrees. There are tons of songs that could easily be interpreted as being about some kind of obsession – whether it’s for a person, lifestyle, regret or an addiction, there are a LOT to choose from!

I’ve decided to go with Breaking Benjamin’s “The Diary of Jane,” because I love anything with a plot twist! At first, you think this song is about a guy’s obsession with some woman named Jane, but if you listen carefully, you’ll discover that he’s obsessed with the idea of belonging to or being loved by someone, and anyone will do. To me, Jane in this song represents a kind of Jane Doe. Any girl can be Jane, she’s just an idealism he’s obsessed with being a part of, no matter what. (Hell, for Ben Burnely, I would happily be Jane!) 😉 Enjoy!

If I had to
I would put myself right beside you
So let me ask
Would you like that?
Would you like that?

And I don’t mind
If you say this love is the last time
So now I’ll ask
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

No!

Something’s getting in the way.
Something’s just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
So tell me how it should be.

Try to find out what makes you tick.
‘Cause I lie down
Sore and sick.
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

There’s a fine line between love and hate.
And I don’t mind.
Just let me say that
I like that
Oh, I like that

Something’s getting in the way.
Something’s just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
So tell me how it should be.

Desperate, I will crawl
Waiting for so long
With no love
There is no love
Die for anyone
What have I become?

Something’s getting in the way.
Something’s just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
