#SongLyricSunday ♫ “Burn” – The Cure

TheCure

I’ve got something up my sleeve for my newsletter subscribers, so keep your eyes peeled in the next couple of days. That has nothing to do with the SLS challenge this week, just wanted to throw that out there.

This week’s theme is: Shadow

I had 3 songs pop into my head all at once. It was a tough choice, but I decided on this classic from the original motion picture soundtrack for “The Crow” – the first one with Brandon Lee, R.I.P. My other two choices were “Shadow of the Day” by Linkin Park (R.I.P Chester B.) and “White Shadows” by Coldplay, if you’d like to take a listen to those, as well. I just wanted to share this long-time favorite of mine now, in case I don’t get another chance anytime soon.

(Now watch, next week’s theme is “Burn” LMAO!)

If you’d like to join in the fun, or just love music and want to check out all of the other great choices this week, head on over to Helen’s blog at This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time.

Enjoy!

“Don’t look don’t look” the shadows breathe
Whispering me away from you
“Don’t wake at night to watch her sleep
You know that you will always lose
This trembling
Adored
Tousled bird mad girl…”

But every night I burn
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again

“Oh don’t talk of love” the shadows purr
Murmuring me away from you
“Don’t talk of worlds that never were
The end is all that’s ever true
There’s nothing you can ever say
Nothing you can ever do…”

Still every night I burn
Every night I scream your name
Every night I burn
Every night the dream’s the same
Every night I burn
Waiting for my only friend
Every night I burn
Waiting for the world to end

“Just paint your face” the shadows smile
Slipping me away from you
“Oh it doesn’t matter how you hide
We’ll find you if we’re wanting to
So slide back down and close your eyes
Sleep a while
You must be tired…”

But every night I burn
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again
Every night I burn
Scream the animal scream
Every night I burn
Dream the crow black dream, yeah…

Every night I burn
Scream the animal scream
Every night I burn
Dream the crow black dream, yeah…

Dream the crow black dream…(4x)

  1. I remember this! YAAY! Good choice!

The first song I thought of was Pat Benatar’s ‘Shadows of the Night.’ I didn’t post it… but I’ve had it on repeat all day! LMAO! 😁

  2. Such a famous and well loved movie soundtrack. Great choice. Any of your three choices would have been good. Such an intense band these guys.

    1. Thanks, KK! The arrangement in my library follows this one up with their “Love Song” to help mellow out the intensity, but I agree, they’re a powerful band. 🙂

  3. I’m always surprised when I hear songs from The Cure. It makes me realize that I’ve always loved this type of music, I just wasn’t in a place in my life to reach out and accept it. I’m so happy I’ve opened up and allowed myself to explore. I loved this song! Great pick!

    1. Thanks Helen. I totally get what your saying, there are bands I couldn’t appreciate at the time they were popular but developed a love for them afterward. Not sure why that happens lol
