#RocktoberMusicFest ♪ “Carry On My Wayward Son” – Kansas

Whoa, why are we back in the 70’s? Because, my life in music is a bit backwards. It wasn’t until I became a bartender in my early 20’s that I started listening to a lot of classic rock again. It couldn’t be helped, when that was the only thing on the jukebox…not that I’m complaining! I had to pick carefully for today’s post, because I’m running out of days for #RMF, so unfortunately can’t share all of my classic rock favorites from this time in my life. But, I can name them: Bad Company, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger, Don McLean, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Blue Oyster Cult, Tommy James and The Shondells, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, The Doors, and I’m sure a handful more that I just can’t recall off the top of my head.

My favorite song by Kansas is actually “Dust in the Wind”. It’s one of those songs that reaches right in and grabs me in all the feels for the total sound of it. The music, the voice, the entirety of it is a masterful composition.

However, I am a die hard Supernatural fan. Anyone who follows me on Instagram is already well aware of that – and “Carry On My Wayward Son” by Kansas is the Supernatural theme song, so there was no way I could pass up sharing it. And of course, I had to use a Supernatural video for it, too! 😀 You’re welcome…

Now, for a bonus video! At the 2018 San Diego Comic Con, the cast of Supernatural and the band Kansas surprised fans with a live performance of “Carry On My Wayward Son.” The only video on YouTube was filmed by an audience member, but was edited to include clips from the show. It’s pretty cool to watch. Enjoy!

  1. So many great classic rockers! Good thing I’ve decided to do this again next year so we can fit them all in 🙂 That was a great surprise for the ComicCon people. I would have loved to have been there.

  3. What did you think of the season premiere because I was a bit dissappointed, I mean I like the direction of Dean but I keep expecting edgy sam to return and it’s the same s*** every season. I don’t know man, it’s just missing something

    1. I haven’t actually seen the season premier yet, I wait until the entire season gets put on Netflix so I can binge the whole thing commercial free. However, I know exactly what you mean about Sam, I felt that way all last season, too. Something needs to evolve with his character. When fans can pretty much predict everything he’s going to say in any given situation, it’s not a good thing!

      Thanks for commenting! 🙂

      1. Glad you thought so, binge watching is the way to go these days especially when content don’t become worth setting time aside for. Supernatural has become that show sadly, but it’s like hardly anything changes and I don’t get it. I have even ranted on their Twitter page of how good last season was but failed to meet their quota in the final episode. I’m letting you know right now tho that I wouldn’t be surprised if they get cancelled this season cause I found nothing original about the season premiere episode other then dean. And the title description episodes that are to follow don’t seem appealing enough.

It’s almost as if they should have been picking up speed from last season but reverted back to filming in that annoying bunker and choosing the same light tone that completely massacres Sam’s character.

      2. As much as I love the original storyline and the Winchesters, it wouldn’t be the first time a show had a successful long run thanks to the supporting characters just as much as the main ones. If not for all their friends, enemies and frienemies, I don’t think they would’ve lasted 14 seasons, and that’s why these characters keep coming back from the dead. I do think you’re right, it seems the general consensus from fans is that this will be the final season. Hopefully, Jensen and Jared can move on just as successfully as Jeffrey Dean Morgan managed to do after leaving the show. Misha Collins seems to have a lot more range outside of Supernatural, so I wouldn’t be surprised at any role he ended up doing, especially comedy.

      3. Yes indeed you nailed it, I heard Jeffrey was the one that was supposed to come back instead of mary winchester. Not that I had a problem with it cause it was an awesome moment for dean. But her acting chops and the shows lack of pushing the basis of acting may have hurt the series from that point on. I hear he was considering coming back but maybe this should have been the season with Dean being bad and all and him not being on walking dead like before. Doesn’t look like tho with how they are handling the build up and I wouldn’t blame jeffrey for staying away at this point.

Excuse my rambling about the show but even with Twitter there ain’t to many fans willing to discuss the series online. So thank you for that one a.c. 😁👍

      4. I think you nailed it, too. I was quite disappointed with how Mary Winchester’s character turned out, she’s just so solemn and serious. After spending years watching her be the “ray of sunshine” in Dean’s memories, it was kind of a let down. The writers should’ve made her more like Jody or Charlie, bad a$$ and proud of it, not brooding. Yet, the writers keep putting her in situations that perpetuated her depression. In truth, she’s probably my least favorite character out of the bunch. Personally, I think Kim Rhodes is the most underrated actor on the show, because her episodes are always 100% of what you’d expect and want to see in a Supernatural episode.

I’m kind of torn when it comes to Jeffrey. On one hand, he probably would be wise to stay clear of the show as far as coming back for a regular role – however, just having him on screen for part of one episode (as he’s done in the past) is a real boost for fans and if this is to be the final season, I think it would be kind of amazing to see a full Winchester family reunion at long, long last.

I don’t follow any of the cast on social media, because actors are the worst at leaking spoilers, so I’ve no problems discussing the series online. Usually, my sister is the only one I can talk to about it, so this has been great getting to know another fan’s perspective. 🙂

      5. As it was for me man, your over view of mary is spot on and I guess you’re right about Jeffrey giving them a little bit which is pretty much all they deserve at this point. Maybe if the cw wasn’t so busy wasting money on those corny superhero shows they’d actually take care of supernatural coming up on their final seasons. It’s their most longest reigning series and it’s like they can care less about finishing it on a strong point. Which has been an issue for me since season nine.

I never thought I’d say I want it to end but I do if they keep playing this waste everybody’s time card. Walking dead suffered from the same tone of dragging on with little story telling at some point and look where that got amc. Which is obviously the creators being lazy and cash grabbing their own fan base.

Thanks again for indulging in our critique of the show, hopefully we continue this later when your all caught up. Have a great week my friend! 😁👍
