#SongLyricSunday & #RocktoberMusicFest ♫ “Give Me A Sign” – Breaking Benjamin

It’s the last Sunday of the month; last collaboration of these two great musical challenges. I’m hitting you with another chart topper by Breaking Benjamin, because I don’t have time to search for anything else and I’ve already posted “Giving In” by Adema. And while I find the video for “Gives You Hell” by All American Rejects funny, it’s not exactly hard rock, which is what I was aiming for this last week of HALLOWEEN month!

This week’s theme is: Give/Giving

Fun Fact: Almost all of Ben Burnley’s songs are inspired by his very real phobias and paranoia’s, of which he has so many, he travels by sea for European tours, because he is deathly afraid of flying. In an interview at the release of the album Phobia, he admitted that the amount of his fears is: “You name it, I’ve got it” and revealed the album had been named after this part of himself. One of those phobias is getting sick, and The Dear Agony album cover is his actual brain scan, manipulated, of course, to show the popular Breaking Benjamin logo inside it. Ben did fall deathly ill due to alcoholism before getting his new band together, and claims he is still fighting this illness. The Dark Before Dawn album, which was the first released by the new band, symbolizes a new hope for the lead singer, though, rather than an old fear; it has the ultrasound image of his son in the sun.

Enjoy!

Dead star shine
Light up the sky
I’m all out of breath
My walls are closing in

Days go by
Give me a sign
Come back to the end
The shepherd of the damned

I can feel you falling away
No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I’ll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain
I’m falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

[music]

Daylight dies
Blackout the sky
Does anyone care?
Is anybody there?

Take this life
Empty inside
I’m already dead
I’ll rise to fall again

I can feel you falling away
No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I’ll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain
I’m falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

God help me I’ve come undone
Out of the light of the sun
[God help me I’ve come undone
Out of the light of the sun]

I can feel you falling away
No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I’ll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain

Give me a sign
There’s something buried in the words

Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood

Just give me a sign
There’s something buried in the words

Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood

[Just give me a sign
There’s something buried in the words

Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood]

Forever, and ever
The scars will remain

    • I think the only one that was well known prior to the original band breaking up was his fear of flying, because they would never go on tour overseas and fans complained about it a lot. I guess he finally caved and went by ship, instead! LOL 😀

  1. I LOVE this band. His voice is just magical, in my opinion. I honestly hadn’t heard this one, but that isn’t surprising, since most of what I’ve listened to are on two albums. I need to check them all out. Great choice!

  2. Melody,

We all have fears but thankfully most of us aren’t crippled by them. Alcoholism is a terrible demon to fight. Thankfully I do not have to worry about such a battle never giving room for such a disease to manifest. I’m glad I never liked alcohol to make it a habit in any shape or form. We have enough problems in life, why complicate it by adding chemical abuse, right? Good song choice!

    • I’m the same way, I think I have a shot and a beer once a year on New Year’s and that’s it, I just never crave alcohol. I have never bought it at the grocery store, you will never find beer in my fridge even though I don’t mind the taste of it, I simply don’t think about it – but I don’t think about ice cream, either, so I guess like with anything else, it’s all a matter of personal taste. I drink a lot of coffee, and that’s not altogether healthy, either, but at least I’m not in danger of hurting myself or anyone while drinking it – maybe if I’m NOT drinking it LOL. 😀

      • Melody, alcoholic beverages I never cared for the taste but ice cream….all I can say is, you must not be human! 😂 I mean, what’s this no ice cream cravings? Oh, ice cream is my weakness! I can eat it any time of the year and unfortunately if I allowed it I can easily have it every day. The results would be unfavorable. Just ask my scales they don’t lie. I wish they did sometimes. 😑

      • LOL, I know a lot of people think the same thing. I’ve just always been more of a savory over sweets kinda girl when it comes to my snacking. But, I do still eat ice cream on occasion when it’s offered at like a birthday party or something, I just have to be in the right mood I guess. 😀

The best way to get your scale to lie is to not own one – which is exactly why I don’t. LOL 😉
