Tomorrow is Halloween, which is still one of my favorite holidays of the year, despite no longer celebrating it the same way I used to. From the time I was 14 up until just a few years ago, my family would throw the biggest annual Halloween Party every single year. We would spend the entire months of September and October decorating and altering the interior of the house based on a different theme.
The party offered families a fun night in a safe environment, rather than out in the neighborhoods after dark. Plus, we encouraged everyone to make their own costumes, instead of spending a fortune at the store. That ended up becoming kind of a costume challenge for some and let me tell you, there were some really talented competitors!
Speaking of costumes – or masks, more accurately – metal band Slipknot has been the reigning champion for years. They’re pretty well known and front-man, Corey Taylor is even more popular as a multi-band artist, as he is simultaneously the lead singer of the less-metal and mask-free band, Stone Sour and manages to tour with both. He’s also featured with other bands like Apocalyptica, Korn, Kings of Chaos and a TON more. He apparently doesn’t like to be idle, not that his fans are complaining. Songs like “Snuff” and “Dead Memories” are probably the most well known Slipknot tracks, because they’re the only ones radios seem willing to play.
But, in honor of tomorrow’s holiday of all things spooky and devilishly dark, I’ve chosen the song “Devil In I”, which highlights one of Corey’s signature moves of combining metal riffs with ballad-style verses.
Warning: The video is very disturbing and has blood/self-mutilation, so watch at your own risk! Might be best just to hit play and then hide the screen while you listen, instead.
