This week’s theme is: Crying/Sadness

It took me hours to find a good song for this, not because there aren’t any, there are just so many to choose from and I wanted to stay away from all the obvious choices I knew everyone else would pick. I was actually hoping to find one from this decade, at least, but no such luck. My library is surprisingly devoid of any songs with crying in the lyrics or title, but I did find this one, which has always been a favorite of mine.

This is the absolute best version of this song ever. Aaron Lewis can punch you right in the feels with his powerful vocals, especially with that last verse, and if you’ve never heard him sing live, then…where they heck were you in the 90’s? Oh and yeah, it features Fred Durst (from Limp Bizkit), because this was during the original 1998 Family Values tour with their two bands, plus Korn, Ice Cube, Rammstein, Orgy and later, Incubus. Enjoy!

And you
Can bring me to my knees
Again

All the times
That I could beg you please
In vain

All the times
That I felt insecure
For you
And I leave
My burdens at the door

But I’m on the outside
I’m looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
‘Cause inside you’re ugly
You’re ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

All the times
That I felt like this won’t end
It’s for you

And I taste
What I could never have
It was from you

All those times
That I tried my intentions
Full of pride
But I waste
More time than anyone

But I’m on the outside
I’m looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
‘Cause inside you’re ugly
You’re ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

All the times
That I’ve cried
All that’s wasted
It’s all inside
And I feel all this pain
Stuffed it down
It’s back again
And I lie
Here in bed
All alone
I can’t mend
But I feel
Tomorrow will be okay

But I’m on the outside
I’m looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
‘Cause inside you’re ugly
You’re ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

  1. I hope this is not a quiz as I am not exactly sure where the heck I was in the 90’s. I have heard this voice before and I enjoyed the song that you picked out for today.

It is sad…but it isn’t, kinda…more like confirmation? Am I making sense? Okay, I’m out! 😁

  4. Aaron Lewis sure does have a compelling voice. I could listen to him for days. He was one that surprised me by switching from Alternative to Country music.

    1. That’s where he disappeared to? I had no idea. I stopped listening to country when Chris LeDoux passed away.
