I was too busy stuffing my face with corn beef, cabbage, taters, carrots, biscuits and brownies last weekend to remember to schedule my post, so I’m making up for it today. My bad, it was my sister’s birthday dinner and I was distracted with all the good eats and family fun. There may have been old school music and dancing that I most definitely probably shouldn’t have done, but…Oh yeah, it happened. LOL
This post will cover the last 2 week’s themes: Ocean & River
For ocean, I pick a great hit single from 3 Doors Down which combines human resilience and beliefs with a great kick-ass vibe. The video was released around the same time parkour was really taking off and becoming more popular. Brad Arnold, the band’s lead singer, was in a major car accident earlier in his career and I thought perhaps this song had been the outcome of that, but it turns out he’d written it for a movie, which the producers then decided not to use. Huh… learn something new everyday.
*Fun Fact: Even though we’ve been in love with Brad Arnold’s deep timbre since Kryptonite first hit the airwaves and rocketed 3 Doors Down to the top of every chart, he was not the band’s original lead singer! He actually started out as their drummer and still prefers to sit at the drums when songwriting. Enjoy!
Looking back at the beginning of this
And how life was
Just you and me and love and all of our friends
Living life like an ocean
But now the currents slowly pulling me down
It’s getting harder to breath
It won’t be too long and I’ll be going under
Can you save me from this?
‘Cause it’s not my time,
I’m not going
There’s a fear in me
It’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Ooh, but I won’t go
I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I’m in a world that tries to take ’em away
Oh, but I’m taking ’em back
‘Cause all this time I’ve just been to blind to understand
What should matter to me
My friend, this life we live in
Is not what we have, it’s what we believe in
It’s not my time
I’m not going
There’s a fear in me
It’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But, it’s not my time
I’m not going
There’s a wield in me
Now I know that
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Ooh, but I won’t go
I won’t go
There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
And there might be something you can see
But, it’s not my time
I’m not going
There’s a fear in me
It’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But, it’s not my time
I’m not going
There’s a wield in me
Now I know that
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see
But, I won’t go!
No I won’t go down!
Yeah

For River, I chose my favorite song off of Linkin Park’s Living Things album, which I think was their first album to feature their ‘new’ sound. A sound that many fans criticized, but that I really liked. Anyway, the video may be a little upsetting for anyone who has military connections, past or present – it’s not graphic, but it is sad – just a head’s up. I absolutely love the lyrics of this song. As a storyteller, how could I not? But the whole of it is just captivating. Enjoy!
Take me down to the river bend
Take me down to the fighting end
Wash the poison from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again
Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black where the sirens sing
Warm me up in a nova’s glow
And drop me down to the dream below
‘Cause I’m only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
Bring me home in a blinding dream
Through the secrets that I have seen
Wash the sorrow from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again
‘Cause I’m only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
‘Cause I’m only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything else I need to be
‘Cause I’m only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
For you to see
