#SongLyricSunday | “Reincarnate” – Motionless In White

This week’s theme is: Lean | Sit | Stand

In the spirit of the upcoming All Hallow’s Eve, my pick this week was just as much for the lyrics as for the video. It’s 100% Halloween cinema-worthy. Plus, I just really like keeping everyone on their toes – Which genre will she pick this week? 😀 Released in 2014, “Reincarnate” is the title song of MIW’s album by the same name – the 3rd and final record under their original label, Fearless Records. Lead Singer, Chris Motionless, was quoted in an interview stating that they knew the album would be the one to make or break their band, so they decided to say “f**k it” and do it exactly the way they wanted to, not for anyone else. Turns out, that approach really paid off, as they’ve released 5 albums since and seem to gain more popularity with each new hit release.

Personally, Motionless In White is my favorite male screamo-gothic-metal band and those who follow me on Instagram and Twitter already know that I have a major crush on their lead guitarist, Ryan Sitkowski…

…and that he’s the inspiration behind the main antagonistic anti-hero/hero in my psychological romance WIP. But all that great reason aside, I like MIW mostly because their lyrics, while often brutally honest to the point of cynical about the world/society/people, are pretty spot on. They’re the perfect band to get me in the right mood when I need to tap into some raw, angry, defiant, or confrontational energy for one of my characters or scenes. While it would never stop me from listening to them, I’m glad Chris Motionless has come into more of his own look now, rather than this Marilyn Manson version. Enjoy!
