#SongLyricSunday | Call Out My Name – The Weeknd

#SLS is hosted by Jim over at A Unique Title For Me. Make sure to click the theme link below to pop over and check out all of the other song picks for today.

This week’s theme is: Come|Go|Leave|Stay

I don’t know what it is about The Weeknd that I like so much. It’s probably the endless vocal range he has, and the total slight Michael Jackson quality to his voice, or the fact that his music videos are often the perfect mixture of Goth, SciFi, and Twilight Zone (seriously, click here for proof). ❀

Wikipedia Song & Artist Facts:

  • “Call Out My Name” was released in 2018 on The Weeknd’s debut EP, My Dear Melancholy, which hit the market at #1 on the Billboard 200.
  • “Call Out My Name” is unanimously agreed upon by fans as pertaining to The Weeknd’s 10-month relationship with Selena Gomez, during which time, she was very sick with Lupus. The Weeknd won’t confirm that suspicion, but reportedly mentioned in an interview with U Music, that he cancelled shows of a tour to be by Selena’s side.
  • The Weeknd got his start as a YouTube sensation in 2010/2011. His first studio album, Kiss Land, released in 2013 – but it was his 2015 release of Beauty Behind the Madness that earned him his first #1 hit singles – 3 of which held #1 spots simultaneously across Billboards.
  • The Weeknd’s many accolades include 3 Grammy’s, 2 AMA’s, 9 Billboard Music Awards, 9 Juno’s, The Allan Slaight Award from Canada’s Walk of Fame, an Academy Award nomination, and his song “The Hills” from Beauty Behind the Madness was certified Diamond by the RIAA. (I mean, it is a really good song)

That’s some pretty impressive stuff, but all I really know is that I always turn this song up, and belt it out in my car with the windows closed where no one can hear me. πŸ˜€ Gotta love those kind of songs. Enjoy!

We found each other
I helped you out of a broken place
You gave me comfort
But falling for you was my mistake

I put you on top, I put you on top
I claimed you so proud and openly
And when times were rough, when times were rough
I made sure I held you close to me

So call out my name (call out my name)
Call out my name when I kiss you so gently
I want you to stay (I want you to stay)
I want you to stay, even though you don’t want me
Girl, why can’t you wait? (Why can’t you wait, baby?)
Girl, why can’t you wait ’til I fall out of love?
Won’t you call out my name? (Call out my name)
Girl, call out my name, and I’ll be on my way and
I’ll be on my

I said I didn’t feel nothing baby, but I lied
I almost cut a piece of myself for your life
Guess I was just another pit stop
‘Til you made up your mind
You just wasted my time

You’re on top, I put you on top
I claimed you so proud and openly, babe
And when times were rough, when times were rough
I made sure I held you close to me

So call out my name (call out my name, baby)
So call out my name when I kiss you
So gently, I want you to stay (I want you to stay)
I want you to stay even though you don’t want me
Girl, why can’t you wait? (Girl, why can’t you wait ’til I-)
Girl, why can’t you wait ’til I fall out of loving?
Babe, call out my name (say call out my name, baby)
Girl, call out my name, and I’ll be on my way, girl
I’ll be on my

On my way, all the way
On my way, all the way, ooh
On my way, on my way, on my way
On my way, on my way, on my way
(On my)

    1. I was, too. I only came across him a few years ago, myself, but I’m totally a fan. If you haven’t heard his song “Blinding Lights” yet, you’ll love it – ’80s vibes all the way. πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks, Jim. He’s got harmonizing down, I notice it in all of his songs. A very easy artist to listen to most of the time.
