#SongLyricSunday ♫ “Ashes” – Celine Dion

Deadpool2_15

Hi all, don’t forget to stop by Helen’s blog, This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time to join in the fun or check out all of the other song picks for today! I know I just included this in my “Top 12 Things I Learned From Watching Deadpool 2” post last week, but the song is too fitting for today’s theme, so I had to share it again.

This week’s theme is: Soul

Everyone knows who Celine Dion is and this song is no less of an inspirational masterpiece than the rest of her tracks – BUT, for those who don’t already know, it is the theme song for Deadpool 2 – which is why the video is both beautifully moving and quite humorous. It’s a good combination to kick off your Sunday, right? 😀 (p.s. you won’t understand the high heels unless you’ve seen the movie, but trust me, it’s funny.) Enjoy!

What’s left to say?
These prayers aren’t working anymore
Every word shot down in flames

What’s left to do with these broken pieces on the floor?
I’m losing my voice calling on you

‘Cause I’ve been shaking
I’ve been bending backwards till I’m broke
Watching all these dreams go up in smoke

Let beauty come out of ashes
Let beauty come out of ashes
And when I pray to God all I ask is
Can beauty come out of ashes?

Can you use these tears to put out the fires in my soul?
‘Cause I need you here, woah

‘Cause I’ve been shaking
I’ve been bending backwards till I’m broke
Watching all these dreams go up in smoke

Let beauty come out of ashes
Let beauty come out of ashes
And when I pray to God all I ask is
Can beauty come out of ashes?

Can beauty come out of ashes?

#SongLyricSunday ♫ “Straitjacket Feeling” – The All-American Rejects

SongLyricSunday

I can’t believe it’s already Sunday again, I almost forgot to check for the theme! For anyone who is new to this music challenge, make sure to hop on over to Helen’s blog, This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time for the rules and to check out all of the other song picks for today!

This week’s theme is: Take/Taking

The All-American Rejects were pretty popular in the 90’s and while they competed with similar bands like Blink 182, they definitely had their own sound. The AAR also put out more ballad-worthy tracks, such as this one and the more popular “It Ends Tonight.” Enjoy!

Back me down from backing up
Hold your breath now it’s stacking up
Etched with marks, but I can deal
And you’re the problem and you can’t feel

Try this on, straitjacket feeling
so maybe I won’t be alone
Take back now, my life you’re stealing
Yesterday was hell

But today I’m fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all I ever thought you’d be
That face is tearing holes in me again

Trust you is just one defense
With a list of others, you don’t make sense
Beg me time and time again
to take you back now, but you can’t win

Take back now, my life you’re stealing
Yesterday was hell

But today I’m fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all I ever thought you’d be
That face is tearing holes in me,
but today I’m fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all the things you put me through
I’m holding on by letting go of you

And when that memory slips away
There’ll be a better view from here
And only lonesome you remains
and just the thought of you I fear
Ripples away

Yesterday was hell
Today I’m fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all I ever thought you’d be
That face is tearing holes in me,
but today I’m fine without you
Runaway this time without you
And all the things you put me through
I’m holding on by letting go of you

#SongLyricSunday & #RocktoberMusicFest ♫ “Give Me A Sign” – Breaking Benjamin

It’s the last Sunday of the month; last collaboration of these two great musical challenges. I’m hitting you with another chart topper by Breaking Benjamin, because I don’t have time to search for anything else and I’ve already posted “Giving In” by Adema. And while I find the video for “Gives You Hell” by All American Rejects funny, it’s not exactly hard rock, which is what I was aiming for this last week of HALLOWEEN month!

This week’s theme is: Give/Giving

Fun Fact: Almost all of Ben Burnley’s songs are inspired by his very real phobias and paranoia’s, of which he has so many, he travels by sea for European tours, because he is deathly afraid of flying. In an interview at the release of the album Phobia, he admitted that the amount of his fears is: “You name it, I’ve got it” and revealed the album had been named after this part of himself. One of those phobias is getting sick, and The Dear Agony album cover is his actual brain scan, manipulated, of course, to show the popular Breaking Benjamin logo inside it. Ben did fall deathly ill due to alcoholism before getting his new band together, and claims he is still fighting this illness. The Dark Before Dawn album, which was the first released by the new band, symbolizes a new hope for the lead singer, though, rather than an old fear; it has the ultrasound image of his son in the sun.

Enjoy!

Dead star shine
Light up the sky
I’m all out of breath
My walls are closing in

Days go by
Give me a sign
Come back to the end
The shepherd of the damned

I can feel you falling away
No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I’ll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain
I’m falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

[music]

Daylight dies
Blackout the sky
Does anyone care?
Is anybody there?

Take this life
Empty inside
I’m already dead
I’ll rise to fall again

I can feel you falling away
No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I’ll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain
I’m falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

God help me I’ve come undone
Out of the light of the sun
[God help me I’ve come undone
Out of the light of the sun]

I can feel you falling away
No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I’ll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever, and ever
The scars will remain

Give me a sign
There’s something buried in the words

Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood

Just give me a sign
There’s something buried in the words

Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood

[Just give me a sign
There’s something buried in the words

Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood]

Forever, and ever
The scars will remain

#SongLyricSunday & #RocktoberMusicFest ♫ “So Far Away” – Avenged Sevenfold

TheRev

I already had this post scheduled for tomorrow, but when I saw the theme on Helen’s blog, I knew I had to share it today.

This week’s theme is: Lost

Typically, we discover new music and new bands on the radio, a friend’s recommendation or hear it play during a movie and just have to know who it is. But that’s not how I found Avenged Sevenfold. The very first time I ever heard them was live and in concert. I wasn’t there for them, obviously, I had no clue who they were – yet it was love at first scream.

That would be “Scream” their number one hit single at the time. I mean nothing says this song is gonna rock like a blood curdling scream right out the gate, right? That night, I was about 10 feet away from Papa Roach when he snuck down onto the floor before the concert kicked off, kind of recall Shinedown performing and especially enjoyed Buck Cherry‘s extended and totally X-rated version of “Crazy Bitch” and yet, the only thing I could think of when I got home was this new-to-me band, Avenged Sevenfold. I immediately went in search of their music and “Afterlife” became my new favorite jam for quite awhile.

Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan was the composer of that song and many others. Known for his ‘signature’ drumming technique, “The double-ride thing”, Jimmy was a Singer/Songwriter/Drummer, that like too many other talented artists out there, passed away from a fatal combination of narcotics and alcohol in 2009; three days after he wrote what was supposed to be the final song for A7X’s new album Nightmare.

But with his passing, the album got an additional track before its release. “So Far Away” was written by lead guitarist and The Rev’s lifelong friend, Synyster Gates. It’s hard to miss the depth of emotion in Synyster’s guitar playing and coupled with M. Shadow’s powerful vocals, this makes for quite an emotional send off to the “8th Greatest Drummer – ” and “5th Greatest Singing Drummer of All Time.”

The Rev lost. The band lost, his friends and family lost, the world of music lost. You won’t hear the word lost a single time in this song, but I don’t know any other that implies it more than this one.

Never feared for anything
Never chained but never free
A light that healed the broken heart
With all that it could

Lived a life so endlessly
Saw beyond what others see
I tried to heal your broken heart
With all that I could

Will you stay?
Will you stay away forever?

How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it’s burned
Place and time always on my mind
I have so much to say but you’re so far away

Plans of what our futures hold
Foolish lies of growing old
It seems we’re so invincible
The truth is so cold

A final song, a last request
A perfect chapter laid to rest
Now and then I try to find
A place in my mind

Where you can stay
You can stay awake forever

How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it’s burned
Place and time always on my mind
I have so much to say but you’re so far away

Sleep tight I’m not afraid (not afraid)
The ones that we love are here with me
Lay away a place for me (place for me)
‘Cause as soon as I’m done I’ll be on my way
To live eternally

How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it’s burned
Place and time always on my mind
And the light you left remains but it’s so hard to stay
When I have so much to say and you’re so far away

I love you, you were ready, the pain is strong and urges rise
But I’ll see you when He let’s me
Your pain is gone, your hands untied

So far away
And I need you to know

So far away
And I need you to, need you to know

#SongLyricSunday & #RocktoberMusicFest ♫ “Voices” – Motionless In White

Alright, it’s time for another combo post covering both the #SLS & #RMF music challenges. I really try not to go too far out on a limb with Helen’s themes, especially when we get so much time to prepare, but I just couldn’t settle on anything with the actual theme word in the title or lyrics. I’ve either posted the song before or the band is already scheduled to appear sometime this month for the #RMF event.

This week’s theme is: Hidden

I’ve chosen “Voices”  by a band I just discovered in the last 4 or 5 years, Motionless In White. It’s about his internal struggle to keep his true self “hidden”, because he knows he’ll be judged by others. It’s understandable if you don’t care for this type of music, but the lyrics are below if you’d like to read them. Trust me, this song is the tamest, least screamo track of theirs I’ve ever heard. Motionless In White is best known for their outspoken, sometimes controversial (“America”) lyrics that touch on ugly, uncomfortable topics.

My regular blogpeeps got a small taste of the more ‘screamo’ style Chris Motionless when he featured in New Years Day’s “Angel Eyes” that I shared in a previous post (which was the first one I thought of for this theme!). But we all keeps parts of ourselves “hidden” out of fear of being judged by others, so hopefully this song isn’t too much of a stretch.

Enjoy!

Voices, In my head again
Trapped in a war inside my own skin
They’re pulling me under
(Go!)

I’ve swallowed myself but the fever remains
I’m numb to the pleasure but still feel the pain
If I showed you my soul would you cover your eyes?
If I told you the truth would you dare me to lie?

I keep it all inside because I know that man is everything but kind

Voices, In my head again
Baiting me in a war I can’t win
I can hear them now
Trapped in a game inside my own skin
And I don’t know myself anymore
They’re pulling me under
Voices, Voices

As I walk through this valley of shadows and death
I curse not the wicked, I praise not the blessed
If I told you the truth, you’d beg me to change
If fear were a currency, you’d own the bank

Voices, in my head again
Baiting me in a war I can’t win
I can hear them now
Trapped in a game inside my own skin
And I don’t know myself anymore
They’re pulling me under
Voices

I don’t want to live so callous and frozen
Ugly and hopeless
I don’t want to live forever
I just want to live right now
You can’t take me from me

Voices in my head again
Head again

Voices in my head again
Baiting me in a war I can’t win
I can hear them now
Trapped in a game inside my own skin
And I don’t know myself anymore
They’re pulling me under
Voices
(They’re pulling me under)
Voices
They’re pulling me under
Voices, voices
I keep it all inside because I know that man is everything but kind
I keep it all inside because I know that man is everything but kind

Well, thanks to our fabulous #SLS hostess (and birthday girl) my new favorite song for this theme is now “Find Me” by Sigma, but since she used that one last week and I need a rock song for #RMF, I decided to go with an old fave of mine by Five Finger Death Punch in honor of my 5 years with WP. Enjoy!

Another day in this carnival of souls
Another nights ends, end as quickly as it goes
The memories are shadows, ink on the page
And I can’t seem to find my way home

And it’s almost like
Your heaven’s trying everything
Your heaven’s trying everything
To keep me out

All the places I’ve been and things I’ve seen
A million stories that made up a million shattered dreams
The faces of people I’ll never see again
And I can’t seem to find my way home

‘Cause it’s almost like
Your heaven’s trying everything
To break me down

‘Cause it’s almost like
Your heaven’s trying everything
To keep me out

‘Cause it’s almost like
Your heaven’s trying everything
To break me down

‘Cause it’s almost like
Your heaven’s trying everything
Your heaven’s trying everything
To break me down
To break me down
To break me down

Your heaven’s trying everything
Your heaven’s trying everything
To break me, down

#SongLyricSunday ♫ “Real Life” – 3 Doors Down

3_Doors_Down

Hi all, it’s been awhile, and what a perfect week to get back into the swing of things. Helen explained that she really couldn’t give much detail about this week’s theme, but that’s okay, I think we usually find our own ways to connect with the themes, and mine was immediate with this one.

When the Seventeen Days album first came out, I listened to it constantly, I’ve been a fan of 3 Doors Down since Kryptonite hit the airwaves, I mean…who hasn’t? Anyway, I was writing this amazing story at the time, hopping back and forth between my computer and my typewriter, without realizing how much this one song, Real Life, was influencing the plot and even my characters.

But by the end, I had these two protagonists brought together while hiding or running from their problems; one desperate for change, the other terrified of it, but they’re both searching for a better version of their lives and themselves. So, I’ve chosen “Real Life” for this week’s challenge, because it may not have the theme word anywhere in the song, but it’s definitely about the search. I also wanted to thank Helen for reminding me of this book, I should really get to rewriting it. (I lost a lot of it to a computer virus about 10 years ago, but that’s another story!)

In case you haven’t guessed, this week’s theme is: Search

Please head over to Helen’s blog, This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time to join in the fun or check out all the other great songs for the week. Enjoy!

I wanted to find somewhere to hide
And I opened up and let those fears inside
And I wanted to be anyone else
Only to find that there was no one there but me

But I woke up to the real life
And I realized it’s not worth running from anymore
When there was nowhere left to hide I found out
That nothing’s real here but I won’t stop now
Until I find a better part of me

I let those hard days get me down
And all the things I hate got in my way
I could’ve screamed without a sound
I found myself silenced by those things they say

But I woke up to the real life
And I realized it’s not worth running from anymore
When there was nowhere left to hide I found out
That nothing’s real here but I won’t stop now
Until I find a better part of me

That’s out there somewhere
And it can’t be that far away
That’s where I’ll find myself
And I’ll find my way out

That’s where I’ll find out

But I woke up to the real life
And I realized it’s not worth running from anymore
When there was nowhere left to hide I found out
That nothing’s real here but I won’t stop now
Until I find a better part of me
