#RocktoberMusicFest ♪ “Stand Alone” – Godsmack

Dwayne Johnson made his acting debut in the Mummy Returns, and then quickly followed it up by revising the same role in the successful spin-off, The Scorpion King. However, it came with much criticism from movie-reviewers and WWF fans, alike. “Oh look, another wrestler trying to make it in showbiz.” Unfortunately, statistics showed the odds were stacked against The Rock. Too many other wrestlers had tried and failed miserably before him. Godsmack saw their own career hurdles right around the same time. They were moderately successful with their debut album, but then it got pulled from store shelves for a parental complaint about their lyrics. After slapping an advisory label on it to make everyone happy, they came back and found even more success. As lead singer, Sully Erna, pointed out to Rolling Stone Magazine: “It’s almost taunting kids to go out and get the record to see what we’re saying on it.”

In a turn of events some people might call karma, the complainer ended up helping Godsmack sell more records, and that had to sting (pun intended, cuz I’m a nerd). By the end of 2001, their debut album was certified 4x platinum and I don’t even have to tell you how Dwayne Johnson’s acting career turned out. Just goes to show that “statistics” aren’t always that reliable – unless, of course, it’s the number of kids who do the opposite of what their parents tell them to. Those are pretty solid.

Now, for the point of all this rambling: I present Godsmack’s hit single “I Stand Alone” from The Scorpion King soundtrack, [briefly] featuring Dwayne Johnson, himself. Enjoy!
